It's cold and raining here.
One of those days where you wake up partially from the sound of the rain on your roof, and mostly because of that annoying sound your alarm clock makes...and all you want to do is roll over into that comfy place your body made in your bed and fall back asleep.
But no, you're awake, and at work...wishing you were elsewhere, or at least wishing that the weekend had done something different for a change and lasted a day longer.
Your hair is just not cooperating, you've accidentally kicked the power button on your computer - shutting it off mid email, that annoying voice in the office just seems to reach decibles you never imagined possible...and it's only noon to top it all off.
Anyone else just adore Mondays?!
Good grief.

Perfection
It's Thursday...do you know what that means?
Nothing more than the fact that tomorrow is Friday...
BUT - I will love you more tomorrow than I do today
EVEN THOUGH, I love you more today than I could have imagined yesterday
Now THAT'S something to brag about!
xo

Random Thoughts...
Being Sicilian and a Scorpio (yes, look out!), I realize it's only natural that I am stubborn, intense, extremely loyal, inquisitive, oh and the list goes on... However, sometimes I feel as if I can also be my own worst enemy. I mean, I am so incredibly lucky to be in love, have amazing friends, an incredibly close and supportive family, a great job and of course my health, but at the same time, I can't kick that voice in the back of my head that says, "Alison, if something seems too good to be true, it usually is...." Why is that? Can't some people, who deserve it, be genuinely happy and have it all? Or is that just in movies and fairy tales...?
How do you guys allow yourselves to simply enjoy every moment and don't allow that voice in the back of your head creep up every so often?
What's the secret?

Day 2 Dry Weather
So today is supposed to be our second day of dry weather in nearly 2 weeks!
I guess Mother Nature got the memo that this is Atlanta, not Seattle.

Tuesday Pick Me Up
So I'm in my office, working...well, I was before I started writing this...
And of all people, I just know you all will be able to appreciate this.
I needed a pick me up, nothing major - just something to counter the rain/thunder/fact that it's only a quarter to 4 on a Tuesday...
SO...I did it...I youtube'd: Heart, Alone.
And I'm so pumped! Why you ask?!
Well aside from the fact that the Wilson sisters pretty much rock my world right now - I'm going to see Journey on Saturday night...
Can we say overload!?
Til nowwwwwwwwww, I always got by on my oooooooooooooown.....
Enjoy your day :)

Why I stay...
So, we all have issues with our jobs/life/bosses at times. Today is one of those for me. WHY does everyone act like he's the king? I mean... I get it, he's brilliant, he's been doing this forever, he has a black american express card.. I Get It! But, what I don't get is this : the people I work with live in constant fear and they stress themselves out so much it's absurd. It's unhealthy, people! He's not as insanely peculiar as you've convinced yourself he is. He's a man, a business man and you just have to ride with it.
So, today he tells me he wants the second Phoenix single to go to radio asap, as in...do it now. OK well... although sales have declined (after 125,000 records since May, you'd assume they'd drop) band is coming to tour all of Sept... ok, we wanted to send this single towards the end of September and kinda see what happens. A lot of stations are ready for #2, but even more are not. They've just really kicked in their spins, they've yet to get research.. we can't push #2 if they aren't ready. It will be a green light to just drop the band to make room for .. oh let's see.. Death Cab For Cutie, AFI, Muse etc etc etc.. credible and staple bands. Well, he tells me "A good promo person would look at all the facts and send #2 out now" then, he told me "I don't know.. maybe with 5 more years under your belt, you could have pushed the button on '1901' and hit it at radio." I'm sorry but... this is the band's 4th album - first on Glassnote and, this is the FIRST time they've been on Alternative radio, let alone we went to #27 on the chart. Um. Top 30 for a band that never got airplay before is pretty fucking good! And, we've sold more then the first 3 records combined... plus some! I feel inferior and ask myself on days like this "why don't I just quit?!"

When the combo of personal/industry relationships get..um..interesting
i had become friends with a girl who i had met because she held the same position previosuly at a label that i currently held. phew did that make sense?
once i left that job we bonded over comparing our experiences about the job, making fun of the boss and what not. we hit it off right away, and she won me over with her extremely loud voice and unapologetic personality. as i got to know her more there were certain "red flags" that came up that made me want to pull back a bit (very frequent drug use, she'd constantly talk about herself and not listen to anything i had to say, get pissed if i didn't text her back right away, getting heinously jealous when i'd have some success). I figured no one is perfect and I should just give her a shot.
Both of us happen to be in the same area of the music industry, technically competitors which i thought wouldn't eventually come between us. about 8 months ago I had asked her for a person's contact info, not even thinking twice about it. she immediately retorted saying that she didn't appreciate my asking he for that info, and i shouldn't keep doing things like that, and she technically could get fired for it. she also went to her boss (whom i know) and talked to her about how i had asked for it.
i was really taken back since:
a) i had never asked her for info before and she was saying i did
b) went to her boss who knows me about it
i apologized and said i understand about the firing thing and how i didn't want to put her in that position, but that it was ridiculous to say i do that all the time since that wasn't the case. of course she has every right to speak with her boss, thats her business and her private relationship. but she didn't have to tell her boss that it was me. anyway, we moved on from it and carried on the friendship. In this time I bent over backwards to get her into shows for artists I work for who she loves and didn't even think twice about it, i went over to her place the night after she got a DUI and let her sleep and cry in my lap for an entire day after canceling plans I had made in advance with my boyfriend.
flash forward to a few weeks ago, and a coworker had asked me if i knew a particular band (a small one at that) had management representation. I knew this friend worked with the band so I asked her if she knew who the manager was. Again, I get this dramatic answer consisting of "what do you need?" "why do you need to know?""management information is confidential here". I just lost it, and said actually there's a Web site called Pollstar that has a ton of management info and I asked you because you rep the band. I added that if I had asked anyone else they would have told me, and if it was such a big deal just say you can't give it out. Our arguement got completely blown out of proportion I decided I needed to take some space. I didn't speak to her for 3 weeks until she emailed me that she missed me and wanted to talk about what happened.
things haven't been the same, which is partly a good thing because i've been keeping her at arms length, being positive and cordial. many of my other friends and my boyfriend had been very vocal about how they weren't a big fan of hers, but I didn't think it was worth cutting her completely out b/c there are just too many professional people we have in common and I didn't want it to escalate any more than it had.
overall, i just think professionally if you are able to help someone out, you should. and if legally you can't, say so right away and don't make it into a soap opera mini-series. in any work setting whether its music or not. i found it strange that someone so close to me who i had supported personally and professionally would act in that manner, when there were far higher roads to take. i don't think i've ever reacted that way nor from my prior experiences from interning to my actual jobs had i been instructed to do otherwise.
phew this was a lot of rambling hope it made sense.
